About Pine

Pine was a Norway-based group ordering app where friends could order together from restaurants, cafés and activity venues to unlock group discounts.

I led a team of 3 engineers from architecture through launch, owning the React Native app and the Firebase / Cloud Functions backend. The product launched across 10+ venues.

The Problem

Group ordering sounds simple until payment is involved.

A normal checkout has one customer, one total and one payment. Pine had groups where people could join or leave while the order was still being built. Each person's share could change as the group changed, but the restaurant still needed one completed order at the end.

That meant the payment flow had to support changing group membership without charging people too early or ending up with incorrect totals.

What I Did

I designed the group checkout flow around Stripe authorization and capture.
